Walking the Camino to
Connect Communities
In June 2025, thirteen dedicated walkers from the United States and Canada came together for an unforgettable journey along the Camino de Santiago. Over six challenging and inspiring days, our team walked 117 kilometers, reaching the Santiago Cathedral on June 27.
However, this journey was about much more than completing the Camino. Every kilometer walked represented our commitment to connecting remote communities in East Africa with essential services and greater opportunities.
Through the generosity of our supporters and the determination of our walkers, the charity walk helped support the development of 87 kilometers of road connecting communities.
Because asphalt paving is extremely costly and not commonly used in this remote area, the road was developed using heavy machinery to clear and grade the land. Workers removed large rocks, debris, and other obstacles, leveled the ground, and created a clearly defined and passable route between the communities.
Before this work, people often had to navigate rough, rocky, and undefined terrain. The newly cleared roadway now provides families with a safer and more reliable route to travel between communities and reach schools, healthcare services, markets, employment, and other essential resources.
For rural and nomadic families, a road is much more than infrastructure. It provides a connection to education, medical care, economic opportunity, neighboring communities, and hope for a better future.
The Camino challenged us both physically and emotionally, but throughout the journey, we remained inspired by the people and communities we were walking to support. Every step reminded us of the purpose behind our mission and showed us what is possible when people come together with compassion,
determination, and a shared commitment
to creating meaningful change.
We are deeply grateful to our thirteen walkers, donors, volunteers, partners, and everyone who supported this journey. Your generosity helped transform our footsteps along the Camino into 87 kilometers of improved roadway that will benefit communities for years to come.
